What is biogas?
Biogas is a renewable energy source produced from organic materials such as organic waste, agricultural residues and industrial waste. It makes it possible to generate energy from waste while returning valuable nutrients to the natural cycle. In this way, biogas contributes to the circular economy and supports regional energy supply.
I had the opportunity to produce an animated explainer video for the Austrian Energy Agency, showing how biogas is produced, how it can be used and the potential this energy source holds.
Explaining a complex process in a simplified way
How can a technical process involving a lot of information be explained clearly in just 90 seconds? The first step was to structure the content, focus on the essentials and turn it into a story that is easy to follow.
The animation guides viewers through the process step by step: from organic waste being broken down by microorganisms in a biogas plant, to the production of nutrient-rich digestate, and finally to the use of biogas for heating and electricity or its upgrading for injection into the existing gas grid.
The visual style is colourful, friendly and approachable. An animated cow appears in the intro and outro, adding a touch of humour to the video. This makes a technical topic accessible and engaging without losing sight of the key information.
